![]() ![]() Eight nouns were translated as servant in modern English translations of the Bible. In contrast to contemporary English, Koine Greek had a robust vocabulary for servant. The present research attempted to address the third factor, lack of clarity about the word servant. ![]() This lack of definition has hampered theory development, measurement, and theory testing. Nevertheless, clear definitions have not been developed.Īt least three factors contributed to this situation: (1) notions about servant leadership predate the development of the theory by thousands of years, (2) Greenleaf, himself, eschewed definitions and theory development, and (3) the word servant lacks clarity in contemporary American English usage. It is a very popular and influential approach to leadership, especially among evangelical Christians in the 21st century. Servant leadership was introduced by Robert Greenleaf in the 1970s. ![]()
